Usually, classics are harder for me to read, but I think I’ve found my favourite classic so far, it took me a while to get into the story but once I forced myself to read the first pages it got me hooked until the end.
In this book we follow two different timelines, the present one and the past one in which the life of our protagonist is explained. It all starts when a mysterious woman and her starts living in Wildfell Hall, and she starts to arouse the curiosity of the neighbours, who want to know more about her, but she is very reserved.
One of our narrators, Mr. Markham, is fascinated with this woman, and the more he knows her the more he falls in love with her but, even though it seems she also has feelings for him, looks very troubled with this situation and rejects him. Then some bad rumours about her start to spread around the neighbourhood that Mr. Markham doesn’t believe at first, but then he sees something and he starts to doubt, so he confronts Helen, the tennant of Wildfell Hall, and she gives him a book that would explain everything.
The next part of the book is under Helen’s perspective, in which she tells us about her past life, and how she ended up in Wildfell Hall, I don’t want to say much more to not make many spoilers, but I loved Helen, I think she’s very likeable and admirable for that time, this is a classic that is definitely worth reading.
